Once again Laubach Literacy Ontario and the Ontario Native Literacy Coalition are partnering to offer a conference that is sure to please everyone.

We are happy to announce that this year the Hamilton Literacy Council will be the hosts.

The conference will be taking place at Mohawk College, June 16th to 18th 2016.

Please click on the link for complete information, and registration.

We hope to see you there!

On April 28th  the Hamilton Literacy Council attended the book launch of Melodie Campbell’s fourth Goddaughter book - “The Goddaughter Caper”.

Once again Melodie generously donated the proceeds of the evening's book sales, totalling $400. Orca Book Publishers also generously donated a set of books to the Council for our Small Group classes. The books were presented in a coffin shaped box created by Melodie’s husband to keep with the theme of the story. Audience members dressed as gangsters and prizes were awarded to make the evening very fun filled.

Thank you Melodie for your generosity!

June 4th, 2015

At the ABEA – Leader’s in Literacy Breakfast, Susan Squires (one of our Small Group instructors) received the HaldNor Community Credit Union Excellence in Teaching Award 2015.
The award was presented to Sue by Ange Grande.

Congratulations Sue!

Giving Back to Literacy

PhotoSince 2009 Telling Tales has raised over $85,000 for literacy projects in our community. We at the Hamilton Literacy Council are proud to help out at the yearly festival at the "Book Swap and Shop" table, and once again we have been the recipient of the Festival's generosity.

In the photo, from left to right is Helen McLeod, our Executive Director, Jacqui Murray from the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore and Anne Stewart from our Board of Directors.

Jacqui Murray presented the Council with a cheque for $2000. This generous donation will be used to purchase iPads with basic learning apps to help parents support their children in school as they use new technology for learning and communicating.

A big thank you to Telling Tales!
